Dumbing Down with Fluoride
Two 5,000-gallon tanks store fluorosilicic acid on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Geren Island Water Treatment Facility in Stayton, Ore. The chemical is used to add fluoride to the city of Salem's water. The city has fluoridated since 1964 but has used fluorosilicic acid only since 2001.

“[R]ecent analyses of bottled water samples [unpublished Iowa Fluoride Study (IFS) data from 2000 to 2004] show that 91 percent of the 103 samples assayed had fluoride levels under 0.3ppm, 3 percent with 0.3 to 0.7ppm, 5 percent at optimal fluoridation levels (0.7 to 1.2ppm), and 1 percent beyond optimal (1.33ppm).”
